The Devil and the IFC News Podcast

The trailer for faith-based thriller "C Me Dance," in which Lucifer menaces an aspiring ballerina (totally) got us thinking about the many actors who've channeled their inner evil to play the lord of the underworld. This week on the IFC News podcast, we look at the best and worst of them, and at the divide between those who choose to play their Satan large versus those who'd rather keep it cool and sinister.

Hey guys,
another great podcast, I think you did a pretty bang up job of covering all the satans, except for one, which I certainly wont hold against you as it is somewhat obscure.
There was a great short film series produced by BMW (yes the car company) in 2001/2002, called 'The Hire' starring Clive Owen as the driver and recruited directors such as John Frankenheimer, Ang Lee, Alejandro González Iñárritu, Guy Ritche, John Woo and Joe Carnahan.
The one I want to mention however is the segment directed by Tony Scott called 'Beat the Devil' starring...are you ready?
Marilyn Manson and James Brown as themselves (oh yea), and Gary Oldman as the devil, and he is without doubt the most insane, over-the-top and over-the-other-side devil ever. Pure awesomeness.
Cheers,
Simon
Fatty Drives the Bus is on Netflix AND it is available for streaming.
Hey guys,
Good job this week, great topic. I listened to the entire show with bated breath, as I often do, waiting for mention of "Legend," with Tim Curry as the devil. I mean, how can you go wrong with devils and unicorns? Definitely a childhood favorite of mine.
Best,
Antoine
We considered "Legend," but (and this may be my fuzzy recollection), given the world of "Legend" is a classical fantasy one, Curry's character never seemed to me effectively Satanic, just evil and with horns.
I feel inclined to mention Thomas Jay Ryan as Satan in Hal Hartley's film, The Book of Life.
Your much older podcasts used to be available for download at iTunes, now they aren't. Will they ever be again?
