The final full day of music at SXSW (whew). It's no longer a music festival--it's an endurance test. Bands, managers, publicists, bloggers--everyone's dragging. I'm excited for all the performances tonight, but I'd be lying if I told you I wasn't anxious to get back home and log some Z's. Today I met up with Vampire Weekend, My Morning Jacket, Matt & Kim, and MSTRKRFT. Keep in mind all of these full-length interviews will be posted at a future date (don't have enough time to transcribe them right now)...
Vampire Weekend
This morning I met up with Vampire Weekend. Alright, so I didn't get into their showcase last night, but at least I got to talk with them about it (I guess that's better than nothing). They're done performing at this year's SXSW, and using today to fulfill all their press requirements. Busy year for the guys--besides various tour dates, they're also doing Coachella and Bonnaroo. Chris Tomson is excited about the latter date (peep the Phish shirt).
My Morning Jacket
Patrick Hallahan from My Morning Jacket will wind down his SXSW 2008 by celebrating his wife's B-Day and taking in a solo set from his bandmate, Jim James.
Matt and Kim
Smiles as always from Matt & Kim. They're just about finished with their new record and are looking for a label to put it out on. With or without a label, they will release a single and video, and will continue to tour, tour, tour. The new album was recorded in Matt's childhood bedroom, and the pair hope to have it out by the summer.
MSTRKRFT
Jesse and Al, two of kind. Just by looking at them, you'd never be able to tell that they're one of the most up-and-coming sought after production teams in the world. They hope to have their new album out in September, but should have a new single dropping in two weeks. I believe Usher has just contacted the pair about doing a remix for him.
