Fans of the 90's Rejoice!
By Jim Shearer on 02/27/2009
What a time it is to be a fan of the decade of the 90's: Nine Inch Nails are still going strong, out on world tour and posting live videos daily, late 90's pop-punkers Blink 182 have made up and will tour this summer, Blur has reunited with guitarist Graham Coxon and announced this week that they'll be playing this year's Glastonbury festival, Faith No More confirmed rumors that they too will be touring in 2009, the punk rock documentary paying homage to 1994, one nine nine four, is set to be released this year, and if all that were... 2008...Never Say Never
By Jim Shearer on 12/30/2008
Filed under: IT'S LIKE THATIronically, Metallica released a single in 2008 called "The Day That Never Comes." (left: Oh the memories of '08.) But in many ways, 2008 was "The Day That Did Come," even for the band mentioned above, who released a back-to-form album, Death Magnetic, which included 8-minute songs, guitar solos, and the return of the old Metallica logo (surfaces of high school desks beware). For those who have ever uttered the word "never," 2008 was a year for them to eat their words:... MORE »
LIKE IT? LOVE IT? HATE IT?
By Jim Shearer on 09/26/2008
Filed under: LIKE IT? LOVE IT? HATE IT?This week I received an e-mail from Nine Inch Nails asking me to fill out a survey (read below). Wait a second is this Happiness-In-Slavery-I-Want-To-F*ck-You-Like-An-Animal Nine Inch Nails? Or the Olive Garden? Once again, I'm torn. I don't know if I like it, love it, or...hate it. (left: "Question. Were you happy with your NIN experience this summer?") Visit HERE to take the survey. MORE »
SUMMER FEST UPDATE '08: Lollapalooza Wrap-Up
By James Ziegenfus on 08/06/2008
It is really difficult to accurately recap a destination summer music festival with 120+ acts over 3 days. Something is always going to be missed. Schedules may be released with enough time for any festivalgoer to make careful decisions about where they want to be at any given time, but plans change. A band sounds terrible, so you walk a quarter-mile to another stage where your second choice is playing. You get a text message that something absolutely cannot be missed. Or maybe you just feel like being in the shade instead of the scorching sun with thousands of... MORE »
JMJ Meet NIN...
By Jim Shearer on 06/05/2008
The following news was just announced today by Trent Reznor on Nine Inch Nails' website: "I am proud to announce the final personnel lineup of nine inch nails for the foreseeable future. We've added, we've subtracted and we've wound up with unquestionably the strongest lineup I've EVER had. Joining me onstage will be Robin Finck, Alessandro Cortini, Josh Freese and Justin Meldal-Johnsen." The two most recognizable names in the bunch are Josh Freese (drummer of the Vandals, who has just about played drums for everyone), and the lovable Justin Meldal-Johnsen (aka, JMJ), the man with the fluffy afro who... The Week That Was (and Still Is), May 4-10
By Jim Shearer on 05/09/2008
Filed under: THE WEEK THAT WAS (AND STILL IS)The week began with another big festival, Bamboozle, which took place outside Giants Stadium's parking lot in New Jersey. My sister-in-law's brother, Ben, and his friend, Paul, were in town for the concert festivities, so on Friday night I picked their brains. I was glad to get the Bamboozle update, surprised to find out that Snoop Dogg would be headlining one of the nights, but honestly, I don't think I could have swung the festival. Two days of predominantly emo-driven music in a football stadium parking lot is an endurance test that I don't think I'm in shape for... MORE »

By Jim Shearer on 05/05/2008
Filed under: FREE SONGS, NEWSWow! There was a time when it took NIN years and years and years to put out a new album, but within the last calendar year alone, Trent Reznor finished producing a Saul Williams album (The Inevitable Rise and Fall of Niggy Tardust), put out a 36-track Nine Inch Nails instrumental album, and today, just released another brand new NIN's album, The Slip--for FREE! For the album purist, NIN's website also included the following, "For those of you interested in physical products, fear not. We plan to make a version of this release available on CD and vinyl in... NIN: 36 Chambers
By Jim Shearer on 03/04/2008
Filed under: NEWSMuch like the Wu-Tang Clan had 36 Chambers, Nine Inch Nails has 36 new songs to unleash to the public. A couple weeks ago Trent Reznor posted a blog on NIN's website that read: "2 Weeks." Many fans speculated that Nine Inch Nails might be a releasing a new album. Well, the fans were right (sort of).
