There's something inherently pleasing about watching pals having a good time, doing what they do. It's buddy magic. It's why "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" is so damn good, and why people blamed Yoko when the Beatles broke. It's why Dinosaur Jr's video for "Over It" feels so right. Not only is it so good to see J Mascis, Murph, and Lou Barlow hanging together, as if no one was ever kicked out of the band, but they exude a coolness that only a matured group of dudes can embody while still ruling at youthful endeavors. I tend to lean more Paul McCartney than J Mascis, but early 90's rock has a special place in my somewhat charred heart. So it was with great joy I went up to the Walter Reade theater in Manhattan last night for a screening of Dave Markey's tour documentary, "1991: The Year Punk Broke." Remember when Nirvana was still new, before they were blasting incessantly from frat house windows across the country? Highlights From Pitchfork (Day #3)

Filed under: LIVENo rain today, just a lot of hot summer sun to end this year's Pitchfork Festival. Here's a quick recap of Day #3: The Apples In Stereo Robert Schneider and crew treated everyone to a fun afternoon set. C'mon, how can you not have fun with the bubbly, positive, and upbeat Apples In Stereo? Schneider seemed to be a wee bit affected by the heat, guzzling down water after every few songs.
