Favorite Music Videos of '08

In all honesty, I don't watch nearly as many music videos these days as I have in the past, but c'mon--we're living in a YouTube world baby--music videos are so last century. That being said, a good music video still does something special to me. Here are my favorites of the past year: Gnarls Barkley, "Who's Gonna Save My Soul?" Not only is the relationship dialogue spot on, but the animated heart--which is literally ripped out of the chest--adds another layer of depth to this fantastic break-up story. People get weepy when stadiums close down (see: Yankee Stadium) and legendary music venues go out--or are forced out--of business (see: CBGB's), so it should come as no surprise that one can get a little nostalgic when certain fast food restaurants are leveled to the ground (see: Shaler McDonald's). This week, one of our Indie Ear contributors (the one who's nuts about Madonna) informed me that my former place of employment back in Pittsburgh, Shaler McDonald's, was whacked with a wrecking ball and is no more. Surprising the Drummer

I've been to a few surprise birthday parties in my time, but none have matched the unique premise of the one I attended this past weekend. The family and girlfriend of our band's (Deck-of-Jack) drummer, Kid Meevin, planned a surprise birthday party for him, where he would be brought into his own backyard, not knowing that he would step behind his drum kit to perform a full live set of music. Taking it Back to the 90's with Starter Jackets
