Let's Watch Some Political Music Videos...
By Jim Shearer on 10/15/2008
Filed under: LISTS, VIDEO BLOGWhat better way to gear up for the big presidential election happening in just a few weeks, than by watching some politically charged music videos? Well, come to think of it, there are many better ways to gear up for an election (register to vote, educate yourself on the issues, persuade your lazy friends to get out to the polls, etc.). However, if you're sitting in front of your computer today and want to watch some quality music videos chock full of of political empowerment, then I suggest the following: Note: Notice how I didn't call the below list... TALK: Donnie Iris
By Jim Shearer on 05/27/2008
Filed under: TALKIt's a well-known fact that people from Pittsburgh love telling people they're from Pittsburgh (I know, cause I've done it myself). Not only that, but when a Pittsburgh sports team reaches the championship game/series, as the Penguins have done recently by advancing to the Stanley Cup Finals, Pittsburghers will not only boast about their hometown sports team, but will simultaneously tell you why they put French fries on their sandwiches, why they liked their ham "chipped," and declare, without hesitation, that Donnie Iris is the greatest rock and roll performer that ever lived. LIVE: Anti-Flag
By Jim Shearer on 03/27/2008
Filed under: LIVEWednesday, March 26 New York, NY The Knitting Factory Last night's Anti-Flag concert at the Knitting Factory was my first ever "MySpace Secret Show." Besides a small banner hanging from the wall and some extra room in the mosh pit, you couldn't even tell the evening was being presented by MySpace. Um, I think if you add "Secret Shows" to your MySpace friend-list, you get alerted to the concert a couple days before everyone else?? I don't know what the hell I'm talking about--let's just get to the... MORE »
Anti-Flag Play Free NYC Show Tonight!
By Jim Shearer on 03/26/2008
Tonight at the Knitting Factory in New York City, Anti-Flag will be playing a "secret" myspace show. Tonight's "secret" concert listing is all over the internet--including the homepages of Anti-Flag, myspace, and the Knitting Factory. Um, okay, so it's not that great of a secret, BUT the show is free to the public (first come, first serve). The Knitting Factory, is pretty tiny, so make sure you get there early. (left: I'm guessing Anti-Flag's not going to be able to use this huge backdrop for tonight's show in the small confines of the Knitting Factory) In related Anti-Flag news,... MORE »

By Jim Shearer on 03/19/2008
Tomorrow afternoon the 64-band Indie Ear Madness tournament will begin. Only one independent/indie-minded music act will be left standing following the fierce competition. Don't forget to print out your brackets and follow the action daily. Competing this year, we have a handful of veteran acts as well as many up-and-coming new talents.
