David O. Russell ("I Heart Huckabees") and Tony Kaye ("American History X") are both fearsomely talented directors and, from most accounts, extremely difficult human beings; their projects attract trouble on a regular basis. Both had the bad luck to get tied up with Capitol Films when the company imploded. It's a complicated saga, but essentially Capitol heads David Bergstein and Ron Tutor owe a lot of people money and are trying to sell their remaining movies even though some of them are now owned by a different company. As someone who spends plenty of time trolling the coming soon calendar for our seasonal previews, I'll see many films that look intriguing, but are pulled at the last minute by their distributor. Or worse -- they end up like "The Marc Pease Experience," a Ben Stiller-Jason Schwartzman comedy that has seen release dates come and go and that'll finally be dumped into a handful of theaters in cities other than New York and L.A. this Friday by its now-defunct specialty label Paramount Vantage. Filed under: ControversyJames Caan has left David O. Russell's political comedy "Nailed." From the Hollywood Reporter: The trouble started Wednesday on the first of Caan's two days of shooting the role of a U.S. speaker of the house who chokes to death on a cookie. Russell asked him to cough as he choked, but Caan argued that the character couldn't cough and choke to death at the same time. Russell suggested that they shoot it both ways, but the actor expressed distrust that his version would be considered and left the South Carolina set. A spokesman for Caan wouldn't confirm or deny...
