Palin

After surprising the country with his veep pick, will McCain's choice of Sarah Palin pick up votes from Hillary Democrats, or will this be more akin to the 1984 election? Will gender be a determining factor, over party affiliation? Look for Hillary Clinton's reaction in the coming days.... MORE »

Clinton's Veep Gambit
By William Rabbe on 06/05/2008
By William Rabbe (Photo Credit: Charlotte Rabbe) One of the more telling moments for me at Clinton's Tuesday event was when Lanny Davis mistakenly slipped a word into our interview, he said: "... when I think about her running for Vice President..." Hmmm... wait a second. For Vice President? I asked if he really meant: if she gets to run as Vice President -- he explained that he was tired and yes, he didn't mean to say that she would run for the office but that he felt she would be a good candidate if she were picked (and is... Vice S. C. A. G.?
By Sarah Scully on 05/23/2008
By Sarah Scully It's anyone's guess as to the true motivation of the Clinton campaign at this point. Are her intentions towards another office? Vice President seems a long shot but perhaps Supreme Court Justice or Attorney General? The S. A. T. results are in and Clinton scored high in Verbal but not in Math. However sexist the test may be, surprisingly, Senator Smartypants (and she is smart, probably smarter than you and me put together) did not perform as expected. Perhaps it was arrogance or all-too-human miscalculation, but the numbers just aren't there to support a presidential candidacy. Hillary... MORE »
Political Paradigm Shift
By Sarah Scully on 05/15/2008
By Sarah Scully Sure the Democrats have taken the lead in breaking racial and gender boundaries but Republicans are not far behind. Some of the most traditional conservative thinkers are suggesting that John McCain pick from a list including Carly Fiorina, Bobby Jindal, and Condi Rice for his running mate to balance the ticket. Whether any of these ticket combinations happen, this marks a dramatic shift from the conventional wisdom of previous elections that deemed white Christian males as the only safe bets. MORE »
A New View: The Democratic Race Through Green Lenses
By Sarah Scully on 04/18/2008
By Sarah Scully Speaking with a former Democratic fundraiser today, my eyes were opened to a whole new way of looking at the nomination battle: Follow the money. No, not in the Watergate way but in the practical way of realizing that the rich and powerful who give money to candidates do not usually do so out of the goodness of their hearts- they expect something in return- be it an ambassadorship, cabinet post or even a night in the Lincoln bedroom. While few see any chance for Hillary Clinton to win, the big money donors who have showered the... MORE »
Cats and Dogs Living Together?!
By Sarah Scully on 04/12/2008
By Sarah Scully With one-time Republican Bob Barr considering a run as a Libertarian (along with former Democratic candidate Mike Gravel) and the phenomena of McCain Democrats and "Obamicans," we are seeing a revolution in party identity. It's increasingly difficult to pigeon-hole voters into one of the two antiquated camps. Whereas the words "liberal" and "conservative" now carry malignant connotations, "independent" is one with which more people are identifying. Candidates can no longer fall back on partisan rhetoric but must instead reach the unaffiliated and dissatisfied voters who could make all the difference in this election. Case in point: I...
