Politico Panel Discussion With Rosario Dawson

By Sarah Scully on 10/15/2008

By Sarah Scully Tuesday morning in New York, MTV assembled a diverse panel ranging from Hollywood to DC to discuss the impact of young voters on the election with an audience of college students from NYU, Pace and Hofstra. The end result was a refreshing examination of the myths surrounding demographic voting blocks and a frank conversation about concerns that are not often addressed in the media. Politico's Chief Political Correspondent, Mike Allen, moderated the discussion that started off with a rather dry analysis of data on young voters from HuffPo's Hillary Rosen but quickly picked up speed as the... Debating Debating

By Sarah Scully on 09/24/2008

[Updated] The McCain campaign is now proposing that the Mississippi debate be canceled and instead the St. Louis VP debate be used in its place with Biden and Palin rescheduling for a later date... Hmmm. This is either a rather sensible solution or a really convenient way of giving Sarah Palin more prep time. That is not to say that she particularly needs more prep time but this is the cynical assumption made by many who, in lieu of any evidence to contradict it (or any interaction at all) assume that Palin is cramming like crazy for her first big... (Click Here) Here are a few of the more interesting responses to the story: - In his column for CQ Politics, Craig Crawford considers the motivations of the former staffers in releasing the information. - Bob Shrum spoke to ABC News about the revelation of a Mark Penn strategy to portray Obama... Rumble in the Blogosphere

By Sarah Scully on 03/26/2008

By Sarah Scully The hostility between (and within) the campaigns is spilling over into the media and the world beyond. We usually look to Sunday morning pundits to satiate our bloodlust but it seems everyone has daggers out. From brothers to bloggers, people are dispensing critical beat downs on the state of the Democratic nomination. The major point of contagious contention this week is whether or not Hillary Clinton should drop out of the race. The Politico's Jim VandeHei and Mike Allen threw the first punch with a brass knuckle declaration that Clinton "has virtually no chance of winning" the... MORE »

SUPERBAD: Do Party Insiders Have Better Judgement?

By Sarah Scully on 03/12/2008

By Sarah Scully Even superdelegates can make mistakes - super mistakes, as it turns out. As the number of free delegates dwindles with Clinton and Obama still in a deadlock, the idea that superdelegates could, would or should decide the nomination is gaining popularity and inducing panic. Some Clinton supporters are arguing that this is precisely why the Michigan and Florida delegates should be seated- to minimize the need for party insiders to break the tie. Both campaigns are hedging their bets, careful not to discount the idea in case it works in their favor and, in fact, wooing as... MORE »
