Maureen's McCain/Clinton Alliance
By William Rabbe on 08/19/2008
Although a work of fiction, Maureen Dowd is scathing in her newest piece about Hillary Clinton working with John McCain to defeat Barack Obama -- read it here. The deal? Hillary says, "one term for you, and two for me." And don't miss Barack Obama as "twig legs"... MORE »
Democratic Party Unity Achieved, Sero Sed Serio
By Sarah Scully on 06/09/2008
By Sarah Scully In case you were escaping the heat on an Antarctic iceberg this weekend and missed it, Hillary Clinton officially suspended her campaign and endorsed Barack Obama. Clinton put to rest questions of her party loyalty (and grasp on reality) by unequivocally encouraging supporters to elect her former rival. She must now suffer through the media analysis (ours included) of how and why she lost but in the meantime, please find her speech below. Transcript of Hillary Clinton's speech on Saturday, June 7, 2008 in Washington D.C.: Thank you so much. Thank you all. Well, this isn't exactly... MORE »
Is Hillary The Bravest Knight In The Land?

Confused? Did you think you were going to hear an concession speech on Tuesday night? Here's an analogy... "Tis but a scratch!" MORE »
Brave Face, Open Hand
By Sarah Scully on 05/06/2008
By Sarah Scully Indiana has not yet been fully counted but Hillary Clinton took her chances, putting on, not just a brave face, but a serenely calm face to address her supporters here in Indianapolis. The spin on tonight's events is as follows: "[Obama] said that he figured I'd win Pennsylvania, he'd win North Carolina... and Indiana would be the tie-breaker. Well..." That said, the delegate count is not in her favor and it is likely that tomorrow will bring a cold shower of a number of superdelegates breaking for Obama and media mathematicians telling her she has no shot.... More From Clinton's Indiana Election Night Party
By Sarah Scully on 05/06/2008
By Sarah Scully North Carolina has officially been called for Obama and the results here in Indiana look to be narrowing a little. Nervous energy has set and and you can see a few in the crowd are staring up at the ceiling, counting their fingers, doing the delegate math in their heads. They know that their candidate will need to win by double digits now to keep the "Comeback Kid" title re-earned in Philly. She's holding a strong lead at present but NC has rattled them. Surely Obama's victory will come with at least a few superdelegate endorsements.... MORE »
Hoosier Pick?
By Sarah Scully on 05/06/2008
By Sarah Scully Live from Indiana: The crowd is swelling here at the Murat Shrine Temple in downtown Indianapolis as "Don't Stop Believing" plays on the extra loud, loud speakers. Applause greets the results rolling in on the big screens at the sides of the room. "She's up! She's way up!" More applause, now shouting, now steady chanting: "Madame President! Madame President!" It's not exactly Beatlemania but it is a steady and solid display of support. They are not ready to give up on her nomination. When North Carolina results appear on the screen- "Boooo!" Hillary Clinton picked a comforting... MORE »
Ad Wars: Round 2
By William Rabbe on 04/02/2008
By William Rabbe These two ads came out the same day. Clinton's: And John McCain's: And guess what? They're almost the same ad! But who should get the rapid response award? The answer is here and this is probably the reason he looks so happy. Thanks to The Page for breaking the McCain reply. MORE »
Hillary's Spring Break?
By William Rabbe on 03/21/2008
By William Rabbe Hillary Clinton appears to be taking a short holiday at home in Chappaqua through Sunday: The move has raised eyebrows -- what's the purpose of the downtime? What is she contemplating? Or is she slowly realizing what Politico has described as the inevitable? Does the the old indian name Chappaqua really mean "separate bedrooms"? MORE »
Six Weeks to Pennsylvania
By William Rabbe on 03/12/2008
By William Rabbe Pennsylvania is expected to be important in the fight for the Democratic Nomination, but why? It's not possible for either candidate to win enough delegates from this contest to gain the nomination, so a PA victory will amount to a PR stunt -- providing momentum and favorable press coverage, which might be an important factor leading up to a brokered deal or a convention floor fight. Following her victory in Ohio, Clinton has used the argument that despite having gained less delegates (and less states, and less of the popular vote) than Obama she still deserves the... MORE »
Unholy Toledo
By Sarah Scully on 03/11/2008
By Sarah Scully Apologies for the delay in posting the follow-up to our journeys with Hillary, but, you see, I caught the Clinton Campaign cold and have been severely under the weather. As fellow Traveling Press member, Karen Tumulty, informed us, we have been deluding ourselves thinking herbal fizzy tablets would ward off the bug. So, with some delay, here is the conclusion to our account from the road: Love Field, Dallas. Just before take-off, we were informed that Senator Clinton would not be joining us on her plane's flight to Ohio. The cabin broke into chatter, speculating where... MORE »
No Alamo for Hillary Clinton...
By William Rabbe on 03/05/2008
By William Rabbe Contrary to expectations, no knockout blows were landed on Hillary Clinton by Barack Obama last night. In fact, Clinton's resurrection seems to be well underway with a reinvigorated campaign and plenty of media hype. Not only did she succeed in Texas, Rhode Island and Ohio, but she has also turned around in the PR war -- her scolding of the press appears to have created a gang rush of scrutiny of Obama's candidacy. Following last night's primaries, referred to as "Super Tuesday II," the fight will now go on through Pennsylvania on April 22nd ("Super Tuesday III"?)... MORE »
IFC Joins Hillary's Traveling Press Circus
By Sarah Scully on 03/04/2008
By Sarah Scully Our cameraman Scott Wagner and I landed in Dallas and raced to the coordinates we'd been given by the Clinton press reps with little else by way of information. It was already feeling like a secret mission. After standing around an empty parking lot for 40 minutes, a black SUV pulled up and a man in dark suit and sunglasses pointed us to a van that would be taking us "somewhere". "Somewhere" ended up being an empty airfield, where we found ourselves waiting for the Clinton plane with none other than Tina Brown and Gail Sheehy. The... MORE »
Elvis Has Entered The Playlist
By Sarah Scully on 03/03/2008
By Sarah Scully All presidential campaigns have a list of songs they play before events. Music is carefully selected for good beats and inspiring lyrics that speak to the candidates being ready, having vision, skills, drive, magical abilities, etc. The roster is usually updated, (in a few cases because the musician objects, as occurred when John Mellencamp asked McCain to stop using his songs), but usually to keep the staffers from going completely insane. The Clinton campaign has been playing the same six songs (including Mellencamp's) for the last six months. Perhaps they are over-cautious as a result of the... MORE »
Clinton Ups the Ante
By William Rabbe on 02/25/2008
By William Rabbe It's no surprise Hillary Clinton has turned up the heat on Senator Barack Obama. With victories in Ohio and Texas crucial to her survival and her campaign in debt, it's crunch time. Aside from the plagiarism flap of last week, here's a look at her recent accusations, claims, and sarcastic remarks against the Illinois Senator: What's the intent of distributing this photo? Clinton mocks Obama's famous line in stump speech Ohio Robo-Calls Comparing Obama to Rove? MORE »
