Episode 2 - "... the producer should be involved in all aspects of the filmmaking..."
-Arnold Kopelson
In front of two of New York City's last pay phones, Peter and Jeff explain to the viewers that the phone service was shut off at their rat-infested apartment and their cell phones are fresh out of juice. As the two video makers pullout address books and two rolls of quarters they explain to the viewers that one of the key ingredients to producing a successful viral video is financing.
Peter and Jeff begin calling every friend and family member they know. After a series of hang-ups, Jeff's Uncle Drake offers to give them $100 under the condition that he be allowed to kick them in the balls. Peter and Jeff, who are used to this request, agree. Jeff, thrilled, explains to the viewer that a viral video budget should be between $0 and $100. Anything more and you might as well be making real movies.
Back at their rat-infested apartment, Peter informs the viewer that also part of producing your own viral video is casting. He informs Jeff that he took care of the casting notice for the role of "the milkmaid" in their upcoming video. He shows Jeff the listing in the paper: "well-established production company seeks busty red-haired maid with multiple skills to perform multiple services for two major viral guys." Jeff criticizes Peter's wording for the ad, stating that the ad seems sexist, makes them sound like they have AIDS, and lists their home address.
Just then, the doorbell rings. A red-haired woman dressed in a French maid's outfit is standing in the doorway. Peter invites her into their apartment and asks if she would like to see a script. Suddenly, a dirty little man lunges from behind the woman and violently subdues Jeff. The red-haired woman pulls out a gun and shoots Peter in the shoulder. The assailants then take Peter and Jeff's wallets and flee. As Jeff deftly removes the bullet from Peter's arm, Peter explains to the viewers that producing your own viral video can be a dog-eat-dog experience if you let it get to you. Just then, Uncle Drake arrives. They welcome him. Uncle Drake hands them the $100, kicks them in the balls and leaves. Peter and Jeff writhe in pain.

I thought Cloverfield had a great viral campaign, but unfortunately the movie didn't deliver.
