The movie is due out in theaters in May.
Paramount Pictures has debuted two new “Star Trek Into Darkness” images through the studio and Qualcomm’s app for the movie. The images don’t have much in the way of spoilers, but for those of us out there who just like staring at Benedict Cumberbatch, at least one is pretty great.
One features Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk and Zachary Quinto’s Spock, while the other is of Cumberbatch’s mysterious villain character, John Harrison. Considering how top-secret the plot of this movie is, that’s likely all we’re going to get until it comes out in little under two months.
“Star Trek Into Darkness” is directed by J.J. Abrams and stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban, John Cho, Alice Eve, Cumberbatch and Bruce Greenwood. The film is slated to hit theaters in IMAX on May 15 and in regular cinemas on May 17. It’s been revealed that over 40 minutes of “Star Trek Into Darkness” will be shown in IMAX. Here’s the official plot synopsis:
In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes “Star Trek Into Darkness.” When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.
With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.
