Adele to perform “Skyfall” during Academy Awards
This is her first live performance of the song.
Exciting news, “Skyfall” fans: Adele will officially be performing the movie’s theme song during the 2013 Academy Awards.
The announcement came from a press release sent by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. This will be Adele’s first live performance of “Skyfall,” and her first televised U.S. performance since the 2012 Grammys. “Skyfall” is one of the five songs nominated for the Best Original Song Oscar — and, if we were to place bets, the likely winner.
“It’s an honour to be nominated and terrifyingly wonderful to be singing in front of people who have captured my imagination over and over again,” Adele said in a statement. “It’s something I’ve never experienced and probably only ever will once!”
Academy Awards producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron stated, “We have enormous respect for Adele’s unique artistry as a songwriter and a singer. She is currently one of the most successful recording artists in the world, and we believe that her performance of ‘Skyfall’ will be an exciting Oscar moment for audiences watching at the Dolby Theatre and on television screens around the world.”
Best Song is one of five Oscar nominations “Skyfall” has at this year’s Academy Awards. It’s also up for Best Cinematography, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing and Best Score. The 2013 Oscars will be holding a special tribute to the James Bond series, so it could be that Adele’s performance will tie into that as well as the Best Song nomination.
“Skyfall” stars Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes, Javier Bardem, Judi Dench, Naomie Harris, Berenice Marlohe, Albert Finney, Ben Whishaw, Helen McCrory and Ola Rapace. It came out on November 9 and made over $1 billion worldwide.Adele, oscars, Oscars 2013, Skyfall
