Exclusive Premiere: Guards “Silver Lining”
Guards debut full-length, "In Guards We Trust," will be released February 5th.
Back in 2010, Guards made a big …well, indie sized splash with their eponymous EP. The New York City trio fronted by singer Richie Follin (the brother of Cults’ Madeline Follin), along with Kaylie Church and Ted Humphrey, make music filled with raw heartache, complicated emotions and a raucous vintage guitar-driven sound. Follin’s calls the sound “pop wave doom,” which is as apt a description as any for the rollicking indie pop built around darkly pontificating lyrics.
In addition to their EP, the band released a slightly 60s inspired pop rock song 7″ on White Iris Records and Follins, who also plays in the band Willowz, put out a solo album based on his uncle’s second world war stories. But when it comes to a band like Guards, the more music the better. At long last, their highly-anticipated full-length debut, “In Guards We Trust,” will be released February 5th on Black Bell Records.
“Silver Lining” is the first single from the trio’s forthcoming full-length debut. It’s a boisterous and driving track that shows Guards doing what it does best: Making raucous rock with a retro edge and undeniable appeal. We are pleased to premiere the video, directed by Kaylie Church.
