“The Dark Knight Rises” hits Newark, NJ
New pics from the set show the New Jersey location being transformed in to a Gotham City hot zone.
“The Dark Knight Rises” is truly an international concern for writer/director Christopher Nolan, as the production has already filmed in Jodhpur, India, Pittsburgh and Los Angeles, with additional plans to touch down in both London and Glasgow. This week, however, one of next year’s most anticipated films touched down in the Garden State for a two-day shoot in Newark.
Coming via a Patch site dedicated to Maplewood, New Jersey (a township outside Newark) was a complete rundown of the Jersey portion of the production, which overtakes the city’s downtown area through today. While the signs of the production are clearly visible from outside, apparently all of the actual filming is taking place inside.
What is normally Newark’s city center has been transformed into a makeshift Gotham “infirmary and ghetto, with cots lining the hallways and people dressed as vagrants, starting fires and wielding machine guns.” Both Morgan Freeman and Marion Cotillard were also spotted on set, but there was no sign of the more “super” “Dark Knight Rises” castmembers like Christian Bale, Tom Hardy or Anne Hathaway.
Inside Newark City Hall, visitors were given letters that alerted them to the presence of both fire and noise, “including simulated explosions and gun shots,” which sounds about par for the course for a Batman movie. Filming continues today at 1100 Raymond Boulevard, and will include 100 actors dressed as police, as well as SWAT and emergency vehicles between the hours of 1pm and 4pm.Batman, Christian Bale, Christopher Nolan, Marion Cotillard, Morgan Freeman, The Dark Knight Rises
