SXSW Rounds Out 2011 Lineup With Midnighters and SXFantastic

Plus lots of shorts, including one by Spike Jonze and Arcade Fire.

Barring any last minute surprises, the final film lineup for next month’s South by Southwest Film Festival is set with today’s announcement of the Midnighters and SXFantastic programs. Highlights include the U.S. premiere of “Saw” creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell’s “Insidious,” the enigmatically titled “Hobo With a Shotgun” starring Rutger Hauer, and a Polish film about a “skateboarding hedgehog who likes to drink beer and fondle breasts.” Keep Austin Weird, y’all.

SXSW also unveiled a shorts slate that includes Spike Jonze’s collaboration with Arcade Fire and new films by Jay Duplass and Ondi Timoner. SXSW Film opens March 11 with the premiere of Duncan Jones’ “Source Code.” Here’s the full slate of midnight movies:

MIDNIGHTERS

“Attack The Block”

A funny, frightening action adventure movie that pits a teen gang against an invasion of alien monsters. It turns a tower block into a sci-fi playground. It’s inner city versus outer space. (World Premiere)
