Songwriters directing films, record labels releasing them, shit's topsy-turvy. But Spokane singer/songwriter turned director R. Alverson's first feature film is a serious and contemplative work, billed as "an American existential portrait that explores the gulf between the idea of a thing and the thing itself." Of course it has a great soundtrack too featuring music by Bon Iver, Gregor Samsa, Pan American, Robert Donne and Spokane. I find this conversation particularly amusing. You have to hear him talk about his Ben Kingsley style therapist. It doesn't get much better than black stallions and Native American princesses.
