Spring Indie Film Preview 2010

Kristen Stewart, "Kick-Ass" and "Brooklyn's Finest" are coming out with guns a blazin' in our Spring Indie Film Preview.
“Daddy Longlegs” (IMDb, trailer)
The Cast: Ronald Bronstein, Sage Ranaldo, Frey Ranaldo
Directors: Benny and Josh Safdie
Fest Cred: Cannes, Sundance
The Gist: With a new title since it premiered at Cannes as “Go Get Some Rosemary,” the “Pleasure of Being Robbed” fraternal directing duo’s latest 16mm wonder casts fellow filmmaker Ronald Bronstein (“Frownland”) as a harried father of two who must figure out a way to keep his job and please his kids when his ex-wife offers them up for a rare two-week stay.
“The Good Heart” (IMDb)
The Cast: Paul Dano, Brian Cox, Stephanie Szostak, Damian Young
Director: Dagur Kári
Fest Cred: Toronto, Deauville, Pusan, SXSW
The Gist: Not to be confused with the recent Sundance premiere “The Extra Man” in which Dano is taught to be a gentleman gigolo by Kevin Kline, the “There Might Be Blood” star plays a homeless teen who takes shelter with a curmudgeonly barkeep (Cox) whose cynicism begins to wear off on his new liege. Icelandic helmer Kári (“Nói albínói”) makes his English-language debut with this small-scale drama about passing the torch.
“Mercy”
The Cast: Scott Caan, James Caan, Whitney Able, Alexie Gilmore, Erika Christensen, Troy Garity
Director: Patrick Hoelck
Fest Cred: CineVegas, Savannah
The Gist: Scott Caan wrote and stars in this drama about an author who, after a particularly messy break-up, reexamines all the relationships in his life, including one with his estranged father (real-life dad James Caan). Like the younger Caan, first-time director Hoelck comes from a background of still photography.
