The Gist: Fürmann and Lukas play a pair of mountain climbers tasked with climbing the Eiger in the Swiss Alps at the behest of the Nazi party in a demonstration of German strength before the 1936 Olympics in Berlin.
“After Dark Horrorfest 4″
The Gist: The fourth edition of After Dark’s popular weeklong horror film festival will once again showcase independent horror films from around the world to bloodthirsty fans. This year’s selections thus far include the recent Fantastic Fest entry “Clive Barker’s Dread,” the Aussie ghost story “Lake Mungo,” the Tony Todd starrer “The Graves,” and the Norwegian chiller “Hidden.”
“Dancing Across Borders”

The Gist: Dance devotee Anne Bass took a camera with her when she traveled to Cambodia in 2000 and discovered a 16-year-old named Sokvannara Sar, who impressed her with his ability to dance as part of a Cambodian dance group. After helping to engineer Sar’s move to the U.S. to attend the School of American Ballet in New York, Bass shot footage to send to his parents to show his progress that ultimately became the foundation for this documentary about the education of a young dancer.

The Gist: Avery Klein-Cloud did not grow up in an traditional household as the adopted daughter of Jewish lesbians with two adopted brothers from mixed-race and Korean backgrounds, respectively, but while she emerges as a track star at her local high school, she begins to wonder more about her own heritage, with documentarian Opper onhand to capture Klein-Cloud’s attempts to contact her birth mother and reconnection with the family that has helped her grow up.
