1982's "TRON" was my generation's "The Wizard of Oz." In a time before the internet, before the average person even had their own computer, it imagined a fantasy world that was very much over the technological rainbow, and realized it in hues and colors never quite presented that way before. It also had an incredible musical score, done by synth pioneer Wendy Carlos who had scored "The Shining" two years prior (and did some soundtrack work on "A Clockwork Orange"). Much less awesome were the additional song contributions by Journey, which were not up to the caliber of say, "Don't Stop Believing." "Tron Legacy" will see a return of Jeff Bridges to his role as Kevin Flynn, again in the virtual world of users and programs. It also had an incredible musical score, done by synth pioneer Wendy Carlos who had scored “The Shining” two years prior (and did some soundtrack work on “A Clockwork Orange”). Much less awesome were the additional song contributions by Journey, which were not up to the caliber of say, “Don’t Stop Believing.”

“Tron Legacy” will see a return of Jeff Bridges to his role as Kevin Flynn, again in the virtual world of users and programs. The world, where Flynn has been living for the past 25 years, is on a server apparently cut off from the web, and has evolved. Thankfully, so far everything looks very good, and not incongruous with the original. And clearly, Bridges is the shit.

It’s been announced that Daft Punk is doing the score, and it remains to be seen/heard whether or not they are up to it. The film doesn’t need a cologne drenched dance floor house beat, but they probably have the chops. It’s set to be released in 2010 in 3-D and IMAX 3D. Will this be the future of sci-fi film?
