The Week That Was (and Still Is), Jan. 11-18

Slumdog Millionaire takes home top honors at the Golden Globe Awards (and if you haven't seen the film yet, which is a feel-good-roller-coaster-ride of a movie, what the heck are you waiting for?!), four NFL teams are left standing, temperatures dip into single digits, and George Bush spends his last full week in the White House. Here's what else happened this week: Wednesday Mettalica and Run-DMC are named as inductees to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, Class of 2009. Jeff Beck, Little Anthony & The Imperials, Boby Womack, and Wanda Jackson also get the nod. One has to wonder if Run-DMC will carry themselves any differently than on their "King of Rock" video--a clip in which they plow through a Rock and Roll Museum. Slumdog Millionaire takes home top honors at the Golden Globe Awards (and if you haven’t seen the film yet, which is a feel-good-roller-coaster-ride of a movie, what the heck are you waiting for?!), four NFL teams are left standing, temperatures dip into single digits, and George Bush spends his last full week in the White House.

Here’s what else happened this week:

Wednesday
Mettalica and Run-DMC are named as inductees to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, Class of 2009. Jeff Beck, Little Anthony & The Imperials, Boby Womack, and Wanda Jackson also get the nod.

One has to wonder if Run-DMC will carry themselves any differently than on their “King of Rock” video–a clip in which they plow through a Rock and Roll Museum.

Thursday
A plane taking off in New York City makes an emergency landing in the Hudson River–on one of the coldest days of the year–and amazingly, everyone survives.

Highly respected west coast radio station, Indie 103.1, goes off of the air. The channel will broadcast via the internet, but without live DJ’s (which included Henry Rollins and Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols).

Friday
The biopic, Notorious, of the life and times of Christopher Wallace (aka, Biggie Smalls, Notorious B.I.G.) comes out.

The remake of the 1981 Canadian horror movie, My Bloody Valentine, hits theaters. Yes, the original was the inspiration behind the band name as well. Don’t forger your 3-D glasses.

If neither movie is your cup of tea, The Dark Knight is also being re-released in IMAX theaters this weekend.

Saturday
Fleet Foxes perform on Saturday Night Live. (On their myspace page they already admit that they’re “scared out of brain.”

Sunday
Flight of The Conchords’ brand new season premiers on HBO.
