We look at the musical world of stage-to-screen, screen-to-stage, and that rare but growing category of screen-to-stage-to-screen.
Once upon a time, successful musicals went from the stages of Broadway or the West End to Hollywood for lavish film adaptations, yielding everything from “Oklahoma!” to, more recently, “Dreamgirls” and this week’s “Mamma Mia!” But it’s become just as common for movies to inspire musical theater productions — hello, “Xanadu” — with sometimes more dubious results.
