03172008_defamer.jpgCongrats (of a sort) to The Reeler's Stu VanAirsdale, who kicks off a gig as Senior Editor over at Defamer today after almost three years of making a go of it at his own site. He writes:

The Reeler, meanwhile, will return to the blog format through which it was conceived. It will continue to publish often (if not quite as often), featuring observations on local film, filmmakers and happenings from yours truly and many of the fine writers who have made this site such a pleasure and privilege for me to be a part of since 2005.

I know I'm not alone in hating to see The Reeler dwindle — it was a excellent source of coverage of New York's film scene and events often below the radar of large publications. The Defamer gig does seem a better fit for Mr. VanAirsdale's personal stylings, though I have to wonder — as one of the most amorphously defined of Gawker Media's blogs, Defamer's main tenet has been L.A.-centricity, something the hiring of VanAirsdale seems to contradict. Does this mean the blog's going broader into bicoastal showbiz gossip? Because I kind of enjoyed the SoCal spirit.
