According to the AFI's latest list, "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" is the best American animated film, ever, while "Raging Bull" is the greatest sports flick and "Lawrence of Arabia" is the most epic epic. This week on the IFC News podcast, we look over their picks, agree with some, disagree with others, and dissect whether "epic" is really even a genre anyway.

The AFI Lists are always so unbelievably off. They pick many overlong and boring films. They single out people like Chaplin only because he was first, not necessarily best or funniest. I have never laughed out loud at a Chaplin film. Isn't comedy to be laughed at? To be funny? Their pick of 2001: A Space Odyssey as Best Sci-Fi film is incredibly stupid. It would be #1 on my List of Worst films ever made. What the hell was it about? To Kill A Mockingbird, Harvey, Annie Hall and others reek of mediocrity. Snow White was the first feature length animated film; it was very good but certainly not the Best Animated film ever. All the films on this most recent of their ridiculous Lists were on their other Lists. Have they ever seen films like Notebook, A Bronx Tale, Black Beauty (1994), Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Braveheart, Dances with Wolves, Missing Link, Battleground and have they ever heard of or seen the Best Comedy team ever: Laurel & Hardy. I realize it's a matter of tastes, but who the hell are the people who choose the films on thes Lists?
