Hello, I must be going.
By David Hudson on 06/30/2009
On the one hand, it feels like I just got here. On the other, we've been through another Sundance, another Cannes - and now, here comes another summer, and I'll be heading out soon on holiday.
I won't be returning to this particular spot, though you may see my byline appearing now and then elsewhere at IFC.com; the Daily, at least as we've known it and watched it evolve over the past six years, won't be returning, either. But that doesn't mean I'll stop doing what I do; I've been dreaming up a new format and, if all goes according to plan, it'll be rolling out slowly in two phases at an entity that'll be named when that entity's good and ready.
Really, I don't mean to be cryptic, but you know how these things work. In the meantime, have a great summer. Bye for now, but see you soon.

Oh, no... You were always, somehow, too good to be true. And now I guess it IS true. But you'll come back? Somewhere, sometime. (Christ -- I sound like Sondheim, without the music) From the outpourings here, it's clear how missed you'll be! Which is nice, but it does not solve the situation for you or for us. So, come back and continue doing what you've been doing (which has always been better than anyone else has done) plus maybe add more writing of your own -- and I might finally start believing in god....
James has an idea there, David. Have you ever thought of scripting "Daily: The Musical"? No?

After hitting the Daily several times daily and GC long before that, this is disconcerting, disappointing, disruptive even. I hope your secret mega-plans come to fruition soon. We need you! What am I going to read? How is anyone else going to read me? But in the meantime I hope you have a fantastic time doing whatever you'll be doing in the interim. I'm sure you deserve the break. Just please find some way to let us all know when you return to the grind. In the meantime I'll have to take up whittling. Maybe basket weaving.

Dear David, what a bummer -- for us. The "Daily" has long been one of my favorites, too, so I will miss it. But I look forward to your next adventure (at the mysterious "entity"!), as well. Take care, Manohla
Such a bummer. Why am I not surprised? Oh yeah, because I've been through this, with you, before, and am seeing it happen too often in this rotten economy. But as others have said, wherever you go, I will follow. I can't wait til one of us wins the lottery so we can start something of our own together. Keep us posted. And do let me know about that GC guest post offer (or primer!) Stay in touch...
David, I'll miss you at the Daily - and thanks so much for all the kind nods in the last months - but I really look forward to seeing your next incarnation. Hasta luego.
Will miss this a lot... And looking forward to the new venture.
Maian
David, you are the OG of film blogging and I know your fans will follow you wherever you go! Much love and respect.
This is such a shame! I will miss your online voice, David. You really did an elegant job weaving all sorts of information together. There's quite a difference between link-dumping and what you do and it's definitely a loss. (for now, I hope!)
Thanks again!
I'll follow you anywhere, David! :)
