"Alejandro Adams's 'Canary' (2009) screens at 9:30 pm on Thursday April 16th, at the Anthology Film Archives in New York," notes Craig Keller. "I hope other cities around the world soon have the chance to see the picture, so that their audiences too may experience this latest example of an American cinema revitalized by the nascent digital infrastructure." It's also "one of the most perceptive and pleasurable American films of Our Late Era."

"The first in an annual series, the 'Film Festival Yearbook' features articles related to the global proliferation of film festivals. This issue is focused on the dynamics of the film festival circuit, including the roles of individual festivals as nodes on this complex network and the cultural policies that shape its channels of film exhibition and distribution." And it's edited by Dina Iordanova.

In the Los Angeles Times, Sharon Mizota profiles Joanna Priestley, an independent animator whose work will be screened on April 20 at REDCAT.

"William Klein made a rare appearance in New York recently to promote his latest book, 'Contacts.'" Adam Harrison Levy for Design Observer: "As the book signing line crept forward, I listened to the Klein-related murmurings in the crowd: hushed talk of rare first editions found at yard sales; the difficulty of getting hold of Klein's later films; rumors about his bad boy behavior during fashion shoots for Vogue in the 1960s. We were like a group of religious penitents, whispering about our favorite patron saint, while anxiously waiting in line to rub his foot for good luck."

"Queer Cinema 101 is a five week film series showcasing the best of gay cinema chosen and hosted by gay film critics," writes Jonathan Lewis in Gay Chicago Magazine. "The series kicks off Monday, April 13 at Chicago's GLBT community center, the Center on Halsted and continues weekly through Monday, May 11. Each of the films being shown is considered either an essential or overlooked film in the GLBT themed genre." Via the Reader's Ed M Koziarski.

Coming up at Light Industry: Three works by Seth Price (tomorrow), "M as in Maladie," an evening curated by Chris Kraus and Laura Parnes (Deleuze fans take note; April 21) and "Touch Touch Touch Touch Feel," curated by Abina Manning and Steve Reinke (April 28).

IndieWIRE has begun interviewing directors with films at Tribeca: Cathy Henkel ("The Burning Season") and Omri Givon ("Seven Minutes in Heaven").

"Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin/Madrid: New cinema and contemporary art." Thursday through April 25 in Madrid.

"Produced By 2009," a conference featuring many names you know, happens June 5 through 7 in Culver City.
