Online viewing - and not viewing.

An online viewing tip from the Wexner Center for the Arts: "Guy Maddin sent us an 'introductory artist's statement' for his new 'Electric Chair' installation which is premiering at this month's Rotterdam Film Festival," running January 21 through February 1. "There can be no doubt as to the film's author." And yes, that's Isabella Rossellini.
Speaking of Maddin, I don't believe I've mentioned yet that his "My Winnipeg" recently won the Toronto Film Critics Association's inaugural Rogers Best Canadian Feature Award. Liam Lacey reports in the Globe and Mail.
Now then. Kevin Lee reports that YouTube has, in their words, "permanently disabled" his account; he'll be looking into a solution when he returns from Asia. If you're not familiar with Kevin's outstanding work, Karina Longworth explains at the SpoutBlog why this is very, very bad news.
Updates, 1/13: "Kevin's trailblazing example inspired me to give up print journalism last year and concentrate on filmmaking, and make video essays - criticism with moving pictures - a key part of my new life." At the House Next Door, Matt Zoller Seitz sorts through the legal and cultural ramifications of YouTube's "unilateral takedown." A must-read, of course.
Mike D'Angelo calls for a crawler tweak; Filmmaker's Scott Macaulay considers ideas Lawrence Lessig addresses in his new book, "Remix."

This is really sad. I always looked forward to getting Kevin Lee’s work in the "Subscription" folder in my YouTube account. I would save them until the moment was right to sit back after a long day. Now what am I going to do with that empty space of time? Watch Lisa Nova? I hope Kevin kept a list of his subscribers so he can contact us at his new video sharing site.
