Arrested Development is back on the air.
Where it belongs... while we wait for the movie.
On the other hand, The Jeff Dunham Show broke Comedy Central's record for a series debut.
I realize everyone has different tastes, and not everyone knew how great Chappelle was before his show hit, and Jeff Dunham is undeniably talented and funny and hard-working... but... really? The stereotype enhancing show is that popular? Guess it's Mencia with a puppet.
The New York Comedy Festival hits town next week.
While mostly stand-up - and great stand-up at that - there are some solid events for sketch fans, including and especially the Andy Kaufman Award.
NBC ordered up the rest of the season Community and Parks & Rec.
Like Community, good stuff, well-cast, solid writing, tightly made. Parks & Rec hasn't yet done it for me. I want to like it, but, well, that may be a bad sign. Just seems to be trying to hard too seem like it's not trying too hard. I'll give it another go...
Soupy Sales died.
Don't know tons of his work - and I always knee-jerk-react negatively to references to the "Golden Age" of television or anything (You mean "gold" like back when there were no/limited choices and women and minorities had no input?) - but he was an undeniable master of The Joke.
His passing is a chance to reflect: To think that comedy has really grown in just the last 60-80 years, off the page of the satirists, into the skeptical smokey clubs, through the radio, onto the tube, projected on the big screen and the computer screen, and to a blog that can criticize productions that seek to break new boundaries in style, substance, and meaning... to think that, is to be pretty amazed by Comedy.
