HDFEST Music offers a database (free resource to filmmakers) of musicians and composers looking to contribute music to indie film. Music is divided by genre with contact info for each musician.
If you look through the listings you will find that many are willing to contribute music gratis for film festival use.

I am in Post production right now and we have already signed five artists to the sound track. Local bands are great for this. Go to www.rampantentertainment.com and click on the CHASING CROUTONS link. These people have been great signing off entire CD's to us for our film to use however we need. As far as score goes. We are still looking but as a ZERO budget DV project it has been wonderfull (the outpouring of support) from talent on our area.
