Who's starring opposite George Clooney in Jason Reitman's new film "Up in the Air," about a man in pursuit of his millionth frequent flier mile? Variety says Vera Farmiga will play "will play a businesswoman who develops a romantic relationship with Clooney's character through meetings in airports and hotels around the country." [Variety] The Hollywood Reporter claims Anna Kendrick, the policy debating femme fatale from "Rocket Science," "has nabbed the coveted female lead." [Hollywood Reporter] Presumably Kendrick, who's still playing a convincing high schooler, won't be vying for Clooney's romantic affections.
Awesome international casting: French rock star Johnny Hallyday (watch him doing a French cover of "Black is Black") and actress Sylvie Testud will star in the new Johnnie To film "Vengeance," a thriller set in Hong Kong that will also star To regular Simon Yam. To was slated to work on a remake of "Le Cercle Rouge" next -- the project is apparently still in development, with "Vengeance" serving as a kind of Franco-Canto compromise in the meantime. [Variety] And nother French music icon is set to hit the big screen -- Serge Gainsbourg will be biopicted in "Serge Gainsbourg (vie heroique)," the first film to be directed by graphic novelist Joann Sfar, with Eric Elmosnino playing Gainsbourg (a few photos of him in character) and Laetitia Casta as Brigitte Bardot. [Variety]
More France: Pascal Laugier's breakout "Martyrs" may have vanished down the Weinstein hole (ew!), but his career is striding onward -- he's signed on to direct and write an English-language supernatural thriller entitled "Details," based on a short story by China Miéville, the greatest Marxist fantasy fiction writer working in the UK today. [Hollywood Reporter] Laugier's also attached to the "Hellraiser" remake.
And there's going to be a "Twilight" sequel, as the first film is this budding franchise made jillions of dollars this past weekend. [Variety]
