We have issues.

There's a new Senses of Cinema, with a centerpiece of three lengthy profiles on three greats. John Orr takes on Otto Preminger, Benjamin Kerstein has "an epitaph for Sam Peckinpah" and Pedro-Blas Gonzalez does Jean-Pierre Melville.
There's a new MovieMaker. Online are Bob Fisher playing compare/contrast with a particular aspect of "Clerks 2" and "Southland Tales" ("Both films also took advantage of the latest technology and explored the benefits of using a digital intermediate, or DI process"); David Fear interviewing Michel Gondry; Dave Roos on the apparent trendiness of environmental moviemaking; and Matthew Power with a guide to doing period costuming on the ultra-cheap.
And (hey!) there's a new Bright Lights, kicking off, as editor Gary Morris would have it, from a post-apocalypic, bunker-bound screening party:
The BL movie-party commences at our clean ‘n cozy new multiplex, on the fourth level below the triple-reinforced steel and concrete bunker where we spend so much time now. All 32 screens are lighting up the darkness as we speak, to keep readers as distracted and, well, under, as possible. Think of us as your tour guide to those cinematic otherworlds that make life in the Great Satan (and the rest of the planet) tol’able.
The lone (but well-footnoted) feature, from Alan Vanneman, looks at Charlie Chaplin's films with First National, while getting top billing is Andrew Hedden's reexamination of "The Garbage Pail Kids Movie," which we had no idea existed. Then again, we failed nostalgia twice and had to take it in summer school.
