Matt & Kim Get Naked in Times Square

Matt and Kim are no strangers to showing a little skin in their music videos. In the clip "Yea Yeah," (off their debut album, S/T) the indie-pop-duo briefly turn their backs to camera (2:40) and change shirts during a raucous food fight. If the sight of barebacks in that video made you blush, I don't even want to know what'll happen once you see their latest creation. MORE »

My Favorite New Use of "Eye of The Tiger"

Gotta love any Rocky montage put behind Survivor's 1982 hit, "Eye of The Tiger." Back in his early WWF days, Hulk Hogan also used it as his entrance music. Then, just a couple years ago, Survivor spoofed their hit song in a Starbucks commercials ("Glen, Glen-Glen-Glen!"). Last week, I was glad to hear the tune pop up again in another commercial. Illinois' Third Chapter

It seems that Mr. Indie Ear's favorite band to talk about is the Beastie Boys, and if anyone knows him, that makes complete sense. For me, it appears that Illinois are the band to talk about. I believe this is my third post about that quirky foursome. But to be fair, there's always much to be said. Illinois seem to be closely following the Presidential election with the release of their Kid Catastrophe chapters. Today, Bjork turns 43 years old (which means she's exactly one day younger than the Beastie Boys' Mike D and Cypress Hill's Sen Dog, who celebrated their 43rd birthdays yesterday). To commemorate the occasion, I've decided to post my favorite Bjork video, the Spike Jonze directed, "It's Oh So Quiet" (which coincidentally comes off of my favorite Bjork album, Post). It also seems to make sense to watch this video on Bjork's birthday, cause when she says "shhh," it's almost like she's blowing out imaginary birthday candles. LUNCHBOX: Let's Give Gabrus Some Viral Love

By Jim Shearer on 08/15/2008

As a 1/5 contributor to the Lunchbox franchise, I have cranked out my share of episodes, but I believe that this is my favorite of the bunch. I came across it this week while catching up on my missed Lunchbox episodes. Even though it's taking a jab at the viral video phenomenon, wouldn't be ironic if we made this thing go viral itself? My goal is to get it 4 million hits by the end of next week. This is what we call, showin' a brother some love! You go Gabrus... The flash 8 plugin was not detected. var so... MORE »

The Power of Time Travel!

Today I did something exhilarating--I traveled to the future! Because I wanted to get a headstart on all of the bloggers across the world, I contacted an old friend at Columbia University who is among the world leaders in time travel technology. Instead of getting a backlog on sports scores (ala Marty McFly) or finding out about the results of the upcoming 2008 presidential election, I just decided to go one week ahead to dole out some birthday wishes, plug an upcoming festival in New York City, and talk about the past (good 'ol 1988). On August 5--seven days from... MORE »

Del McCoury's Moneyland

On this week's episode of Lunchbox, we chat with bluegrass legend, Del McCoury, who recently compiled an album entitled, Moneyland, to raise awareness for the many American working-class families losing their homes, jobs, and farms. McCoury's website is also having a contest for young filmmakers, in which they can take a track from the Moneyland album and make a short film about it. All the details are HERE. What a huge month it is for CSS. On July 22 they will release their brand new album, Donkey, and just a couple days ago they were named one of the best vowel-less bands in the history of music. Against Me! Keepin' Fit with Backstage Push-Ups

By Jim Shearer on 05/07/2008

I'm like a kid in a candy store, I just figured out how to upload video to my blog posts (!). I actually brought my video camera to few interviews I conducted earlier this year, and I would have posted the videos sooner, but at SXSW my camera broke when Saul Williams took it into his hands and delivered a short spoken word performance. I'm not blaming Saul, cause the camera had puttered out before, but I'm just saying it went down for the count after Saul's testimonial. Anyway, Jonathan from IFC.com gave me some Jedi-video-blog training yesterday, and my... MORE »
