Bay area-based Hawnay Troof--think of his sound as a potpourri of dance-punk, electro-noise-rock, and indie-hip-hop (he's also buddies with Peaches and members of No Age and Deerhoof, which should help clue you in on his affinity for crossing genre lines)--recently debuted his latest music video, "Underneath the Ocean," off his album Islands of Ayle (directed by Antuong Nguyen). Filed under: LIKE IT? LOVE IT? HATE IT?Common and hip-hop pioneer, Afrika Bambaataa doing a Microsoft Zune commercial? Once again, the only reason I ask is because I'm undecided myself. I'm torn, damn it. Afrika Bambaataa on prime time TV is pretty freakin' awesome, so is the fact that an artist is talking about where he gets his musical inspiration from, but I just don't know about that girl who utters my cringe-worthy word of the month: amazing. Thoughts? MORE »

Filed under: LIKE IT? LOVE IT? HATE IT?Kanye West channeling his inner Pee-Wee Herman for his upcoming 808s and Heartbreak album. If this is the direction he's going, I have a few questions? Who will by Kanye's Dottie? Who will be his arch nemesis (Francis Buxton)? And will he steal Pee-Wee's (aka Kanye's) new favorite toy: his vocorder? (above: Kanye is a loner, a rebel.) MORE »

Filed under: LIKE IT? LOVE IT? HATE IT?This week I received an e-mail from Nine Inch Nails asking me to fill out a survey (read below). Wait a second is this Happiness-In-Slavery-I-Want-To-F*ck-You-Like-An-Animal Nine Inch Nails? Or the Olive Garden? Once again, I'm torn. I don't know if I like it, love it, or...hate it. Filed under: LIKE IT? LOVE IT? HATE IT?Wondering what former Blink 182 drummer, Travis Barker, has been up to lately? He recently teamed up with DJ AM to create the Fix Your Face mixtape, which you can listen to in its entirety HERE. Basically it's DJ AM cutting together a collection of tracks ranging from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Daft Punk, and Jay Z, to a handful of old-school hip-hop classics. Where does Travis Barker fit into this? Well, he plays live drums over the mixes. (left: Travis Barker playing drums behind existing drumbeats, like it, love it, or hate it?) I still haven't decided... MORE »
