Jared and Jerusha Hess met at Brigham Young University, where they wrote their smash hit Napoleon Dynamite and watched a $400,000 indie flick become a worldwide sensation. Much of the credit goes to the flick’s unforgettable dialogue, and here are 10 of the best lines in the movie.
10. “Whatever I feel like I wanna do, gosh!”
Your first glimpse of Napoleon comes on a school bus, where he impatiently answers an innocent question about what he’s going to do today with this bit of wisdom.
9. “Napoleon, don’t be jealous ’cause I’ve been chatting online with babes all day. Besides, we both know that I’m training to become a cage fighter.”
The rivalry between Napoleon and his brother Kip brings some of the movie’s best laugh lines, but this one is brilliant.
8. “Knock it off, Napoleon! Make yourself a dang quesadilla!”
Napoleon’s grandma doesn’t have a ton of lines, but her bizarre Midwestern pronunciation of “quesadilla” is a keeper.
7. “It’s pretty much my favorite animal. It’s like a lion and a tiger mixed… bred for its skills in magic.”
If you don’t know the majesty and pride of the rare and fearsome liger, now you know.
6. “Yes… yes… yes!”
It might be the catchphrase of WWE wrestler Daniel Bryan, but Napoleon did it first during his triumphant tetherball practice.
