IFC Scream-O-Ween kicks off Saturday, October 12 at 8/7c.
You hear a lot about the classic movie monsters – Jaws, Aliens, Predator, The Mummy, Frankenstein, Dracula, Godzilla, the whole she-bang. Creature feature chiller thrillers are great, but what about the modern day monsters? Let’s run down 15 memorable movie monsters from the last ten years.
1. Silent Hill (2006)
This movie is chock full of nightmare horrors, including the undead faceless knife-nurses, but Pyramid Head takes the cake.
2. Cloverfield (2008)
The film that gave everybody a hint of how you can do a giant monster movie in the modern day and age without being a turd like that 1998 Godzilla.
3. Pacific Rim (2013)
Speaking of giant monsters, Guillermo Del Toro brought the kaiju back to fight giant robots with spectactular results.
4. Pan’s Labyrinth (2006)
And speaking of Del Toro, he chilled us all to the bone with the Pale Man, the freaky guy with eyeball hands who eats children.
5. The Descent (2005)
The subterranean flesh-eating humanoid crawlers who hunt the women trapped in an underground cave system are super grody to the max.
