Do you remember that bit from Family Guy when Peter Griffin beats the tuna salad out of Jimmy Fallon on the Saturday Night Live stage shouting, “This is for laughing and looking at the camera during every sketch you’ve ever been in! Who do you think you are, Carol Burnett?” While some people may not have known what Peter was referring to, SNL fans definitely knew. Before exiting Studio 8H for the Late Night stage, Jimmy Fallon was renowned for cracking himself up on stage, mid-sketch, on live television.
While it’s highly unprofessional for sketch comedians to burst into laughter – they call it corpsing in the trade– there’s nothing better than watching the cast members of Saturday Night Live crack each other up during the live broadcast. They make some of the most memorable moments in SNL history, even for the SNLcast themselves. During his Reddit AMA, Bill Hader mentioned the time that Fred Armisen made him and Kristen Wiig crack up in the middle of The Californians sketch on Saturday Night Live. It was a classic moment made unforgettable because watching people laugh is completely infectious. It’s hard not to crack up on the couch while watching Stefon kill himself during Weekend Update or see Will Ferrell bust a gut in a hot tub.
Thanks to a new supercut, we can relive those moments and many more from the show’s golden age in the late 70s to today:
