It’s here! After what feels like years of waiting, the trailer for the final installment of Edgar Wright’s Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy has been released. Fans finally get to know what they’re in for in “The World’s End,” and it looks like the wait has been worth it.
“The World’s End” might not be a direct sequel to “Shaun of the Dead” or “Hot Fuzz,” but it’s clear from this teaser how it spiritually follows them. Wright has said time and again that this film is inspired by not being able to find comfort when one returns home, and that inspiration is easy to see in this trailer. Of course, no one expects to find their town taken over by aliens when they return for a 12-bar pub crawl, so it seems like “The World’s End” will take some surprising twists.
“The World’s End” stars Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine and Eddie Marsan. It’s due in theaters on August 23. Check out the full plot synopsis below:
20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hellbent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by Gary King (Simon Pegg), a 40-year-old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their hometown and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub – The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.
