“I’m actually really excited because I’ve gotten to sort of look at everything and see behind the curtain on all the stuff, and Kevin Feige has a really clear vision and runs through all these movies. They’re all very different but they really are what the next story should be. I’m very excited about it,” he told E! News. “I’m actually consulting for Marvel in general and some of that is projecting myself. ‘Oh wait a minute, I need that.’ But most of it is hoping that everything’s as good as it can be because we’re all sort of pulling for each other.”
Interestingly, Whedon claimed that he knew the idea for “The Avengers 2” before he ever finalized what “The Avengers” would be about. Though he didn’t know for sure if he’d direct the movie’s sequel, he has been moving towards that point ever since.
“I didn’t think I was going to do the second one, but I had an idea for it before I figured out the first one,” he said. “You go into a movie not assuming there’s going to be a [sequel]. I’ve seen a lot of movies that are the first part of a trilogy that never happened and it’s terrible. You don’t save anything for the trip back. Having said that, I did sort of know if they were to come back, I know what’s going to happen.”
Whedon also spoke about the pilot for “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” which he just recently wrapped shooting. “It was fun. It went well,” he said. “We were just sort of finishing last week, and it’s a different view of the Marvel Universe but it’s very much Marvel. That’s the stuff I love because I grew up on it. You’ve got your cast and you’ve got your trouble everywhere but it’s not a dead body every week. Some are the bodies are alive and they talk and have feelings, it’s nice.”
“The Avengers 2” is due in theaters on May 1, 2015.
