A new trailer for “Kick-Ass 2” has arrived and, unlike the first one, this teaser is all about Hit-Girl. It turns out that the young superhero has had a more difficult time than Kick-Ass when it comes to ingratiating herself in normal everyday life.
IFC recently spoke with “Kick-Ass 2’s” John Romita Jr. about the upcoming movie. He explained why he thinks the “Kick-Ass” stories are so relatable.
“It gives people a base to identify with. There’s nothing about this — the first one and particularly the second one — there’s nothing about this that stretches the boundaries. Nobody does anything supernatural, so there’s still a basis of reality,” he said. “Much like ‘Spider-Man,’ what it’s strength is is that this kid becomes a superhero and it never veered from it. Now, with ‘Kick-Ass,’ it’s the same thing, and the reader or the viewers can identify with what it is, and it’s so strong in that light.”
“Kick-Ass 2” stars Aaron Johnson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Chloe Moretz. It also introduces Donald Faison as Doctor Gravity, Robert Emms as Insect Man, Lindy Booth as Night-Bitch, Lee as Brooke, Carrey as The Colonel, John Leguizamo as Red Mist’s bodyguard and Morris Chestnut as Hit-Girl’s guardian. Directed by Wadlow, it’s due in theaters on June 28, 2013.
Here’s the official plot synopsis for “Kick-Ass 2”:
Kick-Ass, Hit Girl and Red Mist return for the follow-up to 2010′s irreverent global hit: “Kick-Ass 2.” After Kick-Ass’ (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) insane bravery inspires a new wave of self-made masked crusaders, led by the badass Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey), our hero joins them on patrol. When these amateur superheroes are hunted down by Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) — reborn as The Mother F%&*^r — only the blade-wielding Hit Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) can prevent their annihilation.
