“The Amazing Spider-Man 2” will officially be called “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” and it’s also finally got an official synopsis. Columbia Pictures issued a press release announcing that the film began shooting in New York City on February 5, and confirmed that Paul Giamatti will play the Rhino.
In addition, the flick officially stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Shailene Woodley, Dane DeHaan, Colm Feore, Paul Giamatti, and Sally Field. Those had already been reported, but it’s nice to have Columbia’s stamp of approval on the castings as we go forward. Foxx is playing Electro, DeHaan is Harry Osborn and Woodley is Mary Jane Watson.
The official synopsis reads:
In “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.
Fun fact: “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” is the only movie in the “Spider-Man” film series to shoot entirely in New York. Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinker wrote the screenplay for the flick, with James Vanderbilt having written an earlier draft. It’s due out on May 2, 2014.
