A “The Wolverine” trailer might not be hitting theaters until 2013, but at least we get a look at something moving now. A new motion poster for the film has been released, and it fully plays up the film’s Japanese setting.
In the image, Hugh Jackman’s The Wolverine can be seen kneeling on a rooftop in Japan with his claws extended and a katana in one hand. If that’s not a vote of confidence, we don’t know what is, because we’re definitely intrigued now that we know Logan will be using more than his fists to fight enemies in the film.
The broody aspect of the poster has us a little nervous, but we’ll wait until we see an actual trailer of the flick before we start judging the image on that. As the name implies, “The Wolverine” is all about The Wolverine, so it makes sense that no one else is featured in this poster.
Directed by James Mangold, “The Wolverine” stars Jackman, Will Yun Lee and Tao Okamoto. It’s due in theaters on July 26, 2013. Here’s the movie’s official synopsis:
Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine, the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world he faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality, emerging more powerful than we have ever seen him before.
