“Kick-Ass 2” is gearing up to begin filming in September, and the movie already has its first new casting addition.
Deadline is reporting that John Leguizamo has joined the cast of the movie. He’ll play a bodyguard who is assigned to protect Christopher Mintz-Plasse’s character Red Mist (though that name will soon become “The Motherfucker” in the upcoming sequel).
This likely isn’t related to the other bodyguard character that we heard would be casted soon. A casting call that seemed to be looking for Mother Russia was released earlier this month, and it doesn’t seem likely that Leguizamo’s character would replace her in the script.
“Kick-Ass 2” will be based on Mark Millar’s comic books “Hit-Girl” and “Kick-Ass 2,” and will follow the continued adventures of the titular superhero. The sequel will be directed by Jeff Wadlow, with “Kick-Ass” director Matthew Vaughn still acting as producer. The movie’s three main stars — Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz and Mintz-Plasse — will all be back to reprise their roles, and even Nicholas Cage will make an appearance.
We still can’t quite believe that “Kick-Ass 2” is actually getting made. The film has been stuck trying to get into production since soon after “Kick-Ass” was released, and its filming start date has been pushed back almost every time it has been announced. But it seems likely that “Kick-Ass 2” will be able to get started by September, especially since new cast members are already joining the script. Fingers crossed that the final product will be as good as we all hope it will be.
