It’s too bad the title “Walking on Sunshine” was already taken (and sorry for getting it stuck in your head now) because that title would be the perfect moniker for Jasmine Ash’s latest release. While the track is called “Starlight” the song itself is filled with sunshine. It’s unadulterated and unabashed bubblegum pop that plays like a three-minute dose of summer. It seems just a matter of time before this song is licensed to a television show or a film to be played while an attractive couple bikes aimlessly down the street on a late spring day.
Ash recently moved from rainy Portland, Oregon to Los Angeles and the sunshine seems to have infiltrated her sound. Her work with the indie rock band Oh Darling is equally infused with light and good-natured humor. Her full-length solo record Beneath The Noise (produced and co-written by Jacques Brautbar and Sam Farrar) came on Valentine’s Day and is chock full of pop songs that show that Jasmine Ash is not afraid to make a joyful noise. “This life is like a dream every day, because I am fortuitous enough to be able to do what I love. I’ve learned so much about my strengths and weaknesses over the past few years and every day just keeps getting better as I learn something new,” Ash says on her website.
The video that we are premiering today pairs perfectly with the sweet enthusiasm of the song. “‘Starlight’ is such a fun, bouncy and energetic song and they completely captured that aesthetic,” said Ash on the making of the video with directors Tripp and Jenna Watt. The Watts agree that the song inspired the video, “The melodic and upbeat tempo of Starlight instantaneously sparked [our] imaginations and the idea for the video was born.”
