After starring in last year’s “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” Rooney Mara is a hot commodity in Hollywood, currently working as the lead in Steven Soderbergh’s “The Bitter Pill.” But if talks go through, she could also be taking on a role in the next film by director Spike Jonze.
According to Variety Mara is in negotiations to join the cast of Jonze’s first post-“Where the Wild Things Are” project, a film about a man who falls in love with the voice emanating from his computer, with a script written by the director himself. If things go as expected, Mara would join a cast that already includes Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams and Samantha Morton, with filming beginning after the actress wraps on “The Bitter Pill.”
The role Mara is circling was originally held by Carey Mulligan, who had to drop out of the project on account of scheduling conflicts. Don’t catch yourself feeling bad for the actress though, as she has a pretty impressive looking dance card of her own, as she has locked down roles in both the Coen Brothers’ “Inside Llewyn Davis” as well as Baz Luhrmann’s “The Great Gatsby.”
