During our conversation with filmmaker David Gordon Green about his latest movie, “The Sitter,” we discussed a lot of projects that have been on his plate for a while now, and one project that isn’t in the works, but everyone still wants to know about: a sequel to “Pineapple Express.”
As one might expect, Green said he gets asked about a potential follow-up to the 2008 film starring Seth Rogen, James Franco, and Danny McBride quite a bit, and his answer has changed from time to time. More often than not, his response is a direct result of conversations he’s had with the “Express” cast and writers Rogen and Evan Goldberg.
“We always talk about it every time Franco and Seth and I get in a room,” he laughed. “I would never say no, because I’ve said ‘No’ before and changed my mind.”
“Those guys are such great collaborators and they certainly would provide a wonderful experience,” said Green, “but I think right now I have the itch to go somewhere a little different from comedy.”
Still, Green wasn’t willing to rule out the possibility of reuniting the “Pineapple Express” team for another film.
“At the same time, maybe they have a twist that could entice me,” he teased. “We’ll see!”
