Best known for his artsy, actiony late 1990s flick “Run Lola Run,” director Tom Tykwer has since helmed a number of films in his native Germany. His most recent, the 2010 film “Three” will finally see release stateside later this month, but you can check out a trailer for the movie now.
In recent months, Tykwer’s name has most often been attached to those of the Wachowskis, as he is currently teaming up with the sibling filmmakers on the extremely ambitious literary adaptation “Cloud Atlas.” But even if you aren’t a fan of German films like “The Princess and the Warrior” and “Perfume: The Story of a Murderer,” and unlike us, don’t happen to compulsively follow every move the creators of “The Matrix” make, you still might be familiar with Tykwer’s work from the 2009 thriller “The International.”
The story of a married couple, each of whom ends up having an affair with the same man, “Three” has won awards at Outfest 2011 as well as the German Film Awards. Though the near dialogue-free trailer and David Bowie soundtrack might cause you to think that “Three” is one of those very serious relationship dramas, the film is actually a comedy, so we’ve got our fingers crossed for a scene where the wife points at the two guys and frantically says, “You…? And him…? TOGETHER!?” while “Yakety Sax” ramps up in the background.
