It’s only 64 days ’til Thanksgiving. If that little number sends you into paroxysms of panic, we have the cure: “The Last of the Mohicans” airs at 7 and 9:30 p.m. ET. Nothing like watching a Native American massacre to make you put Turkey Day in perspective. Set in the 1750s during the French and Indian War, the lushly romantic version of the James Fenimore Cooper novel film, stars Daniel Day-Lewis as Hawkeye, the European-born adopted son of Mohican scout Chingachgook (Russell Means). Hawkeye joins up with a group of Britons who have recently arrived in the Colonies including Cora Munro (Madeleine Stowe) and her younger sister, Alice (Jodhi May), who are rescued from a Huron war party by Hawkeye. If that’s not the basis for a few fantasies, we don’t know what is. Watching Daniel Day Lewis run shirtless through the Early American woods, inspired us to think of some other times DDL didn’t wear a shirt or, you know, did an amazing job acting.
Five Daniel Day Lewis roles we love:
5. Jack Slavin in “The Ballad of Jack and Rose”
4. Cecil Vyse in “A Room with a View”
3. Hawkeye in “Last of the Mohicans”
2. Christy Brown in “My Left Foot”
1. Daniel Plainview in “There Will be Blood”
