The city of Baltimore has many mottos: Charm City, Crabtown, The City That Reads, The Best City in America (no really, that’s a recent slogan). Now the city’s Chamber of Commerce can include that Baltimore has been officially dubbed “Young, Broke, & Beautiful.” Sure, the city has been featured in “Homicide: Life on the Streets” and “The Wire,” but neither of those shows gave many reasons to love the city, unless you’re into drug running and drive by shootings. In “Young, Broke, & Beautiful” our host Stuart Schuffman a.k.a. Broke-Ass Stuart takes us on a tour of the best that the city has to offer. One of the stars of Baltimore’s burgeoning underground music scene is Dan Deacon who rearranges layers of beats, distortion, and walls of sound like they are nothing more than patio furniture. His music is complex, multi-faceted, and endlessly fascinating. Kinda like the city of Baltimore itself.
New episodes of “Young, Broke & Beautiful” air on IFC on Fridays at 11 p.m. ET
