Yours truly has been tracking the upcoming TV show based on THQ’s “Red Faction” action games for a while now, but have had little to base our expectations on. Cable network SyFy just unveiled a new promo clip for the show, whih you can take a look at below:
“Origins” serves as a bridge between 2008’s “Red Faction: Guerilla” and the “Red Faction: Armageddon” game coming out this summer. Those who were prophesying “Sharktopus”-style cheesiness may find themselves pleasantly surprised by the trailer’s stylized look and tempered acting. It’s cool to see Robert Patrick–once sleek and fearsome as the deadly T-1000 in “Terminator 2”–in grizzled-elder-statesman action-hero mode as former rebel leader Alex Mason. The trailer also seems to channel the far-future Dust Bowl vibe that “Red Faction: Guerilla” offered up as a backdrop for the game’s insurgent action.
The two-hour movie’s supposedly a test pilot for a series and you can see the core conflicts being set up in the clip. While this trailer does raise hopes a bit, it’s only the full experience that will show how successful “Origins” is as an adaptation. The show airs on SyFy on June 4th at 9 p.m./8 p.m. Central.
