We’re heading towards 3PM and I still haven’t posted a blog today. I can explain. I went on a road trip to Detroit, Michigan to catch Game 5 of the Penguins/Red Wings Stanley Cup Finals match-up. For as many people in indie music who cringe at the word “sports,” there are just as many who hold the world of sports close to their hearts. Through my travels, I have met many musicians who are surprisingly into baseball, football, soccer, and yes, even professional wrestling (ahem, Hot Chip). Because I know these artists have my back, I don’t feel as guilty for writing a hockey story on an indie music blog.
Anyway, after road-tripping to Pittsburgh, five good friends and I journeyed five hours west to Detroit Rock City for Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals (just realized all the 5’s in this story, don’t know if that has any significance or not?). The Red Wings were leading the series 3-1 and were actually 35 seconds away from winning the Stanley Cup, when the Penguins scored a late goal in regulation to tie things up. Three overtimes later, somewhere between midnight and 1AM, the Penguins scored and won the game, extending the series to a Game 6. It was glorious my friends, GLORIOUS (unless you were Kid Rock, who was also in attendance)!!
We left Detroit and headed back to the ‘burgh. Long story short, I’m running on no sleep and a lot of adrenaline. When this crazy series ends, I’ll step up my music blogging game–I promise.
